Belgium (nationwide): Skeyes air traffic controllers two-wave strike on 2 June 2026 (02:30–07:00 morning + 14:00–21:00 afternoon)

Air traffic controllers at Skeyes carried out two unscheduled walkouts on 2 June 2026 across Belgium. The first wave from 02:30 to 07:00 local closed Belgian airspace overnight (around 25 delayed departures at Brussels, ~30 cancellations at Charleroi, ~40 cargo flights affected at Liège); normal operations resumed by 09:30. A second wildcat walkout then began at 14:00 local and is scheduled to last until 21:00, halting traffic to and from Belgium's five main airports — Brussels (BRU), Charleroi (CRL), Liège (LGG), Antwerp (ANR) and Ostend-Bruges (OST). Brussels Airport confirmed around 200 cancelled flights for the afternoon window and asked travellers booked between 14:00 and 21:00 not to come to the airport; Eurocontrol-managed overflights above ~7,500m remain unaffected. The dispute is over transitional arrangements for Skeyes' new digital control centre in Namur (covering Liège and Charleroi airport towers): a Monday preliminary agreement with one union secretary was never put to or supported by the rank and file, with controllers also citing concerns over digital-system security, social impact of the Namur relocation, shift-scheduling, and unequal pay between airport control towers.
